The potbellied Elephant sits buoyantly
Engulfing within
The cosmic sponge of the Big Bang
Concealing beneath his flab,
The biological gut brain
Of extraordinary capability
He is the Lord of the Base
Where warped space time allows for
The elemental spilling of the Panchabhootha,
Where water dissolves Earth
Converting insouciant matter into puissant Life..
Ritually acted out by a recurring Chaturthi..
Created from Her golden womb of infinite manifestation
She sculpts his clayey silhouette
From Her versatile earth-dirt
Breathing Him into alively existence
Full of righteous gratitude
He lovingly guards Her
Unintelligently preventing
Even Her beloved Shiva
From seeing the seen.
As the Seer is enraged,
He cuts off his unperceptive — Yet dutybound head!
Unleashing by dissonance
Her wrathful fury which
Threatens to empty Life
Of Her Existence.
As the heavens rumble and the devas plead
Shiva restores him as Vigna- Vinayaka!
With an Elephant head of gentle wisdom
That yokes the Disembodied to the Body
Rising ever since as Ganapathi!
The Lord of the Ganas emerges
To find his special space
In the ever sprawling pantheon
Seated on his left lap is boundless Chitti
And on his right the navigating Buddhi
Which merge on being seen
By the calm elephantine principle
Of Mammoth strength
And tender equipoise
As he skillfully manouvres
The irritatingly squeaky ego
With unbelievable ease
Transmuting the mendacious mouse
Into a force that nibbles upon itself
He raises himself to a feverish pitch
Steadily penning the eternal Mahabharata
Amidst the ever-present Kurukshetra
Breaking his much-prized tusk
For the sake of holding
The intensity of pitch
He chalks out the dramatis personae
Whose collisions he captures
Sans mental distortion
As Ekadantha,
He inks with teethy blood
The honey of Vak
That flows from the human tongue
Of the Sagacious Vyasa
Giving birth to Shubham and Labham-
Knowledge and it’s Fruits
He also brings forth Santoshi,
The sweetness of experience
That accompanies the emergence
Of Loving Wisdom
Outwitting his brother
The fiery and brawny Muruga
He wins by brainy circumambulation
Focussing on the simple fundamentals
Instead of complexly getting caught
In the web of myriad individuations
Even the terrible Shani
Is left perplexed by his wit
As Doctor Elephant Strange
Entangles him within
The endless loop of Time
Thus, lovingly rescuing Wisdom
From the Icy hand of Fate.
As the remover of obstacles,
He brings much Fortune
Through the witty yoking
Of heart and mind
As His unending appetite
Gobbles all external Pretence
He teaches the wealthy Kubhera,
The potency of modest devotion
Which appears meagre to the mental mind
But rattles even the Mighty Kailash!
The very abode of the Fundamentals
From which he emerged
Wittily worshipping them
By meandering around…
He Fortuitously unlocks
The Ultimate Prize-
The eternal Lubricant of Divine Grace
Thus, earthily gluing together
The Ever Present
with
The Ever Emergent
