Narasimha

Clothed in Gold and consumed by Glory
Hiranyakashyipu, the demonic-asura
Births the reign of meaningless dominance
Fed by the narcissistic narrative
Of his autobiographical self
he haughtily assigns to himself
The position of God
Echoing exceptionally
The hegemonic war-cry
Of Gold, God and Glory
Expounded merrily by the
Mantra of Pax Anglicana..

A gloating automaton
Of animal appetite
he arm-twists even Brahma
With treacherous double dealing
From animal appetite to human hubris
he performs the first linguistic
Feat of Derridian double reading

Coupling ascetic austerity
With rational chicanery
He asks for
Ceaseless consumer continuity
Of his ever aggrandizing wants

When informed about
The inevitable certainty of Death
He invents legality
To skilfully manoeuvre past
The certain deathly constraint of Nature

As the first lobbying lawyer
He brokers a diabolical deal
Of not being killed
Either in day or night
Neither inside nor outside
By man nor by beast
With no known weapon
Or human hand…

With smug legal sophistry
His interpretative deconstruction
Misreads, the Ambrosia of Amrita
As the perpetuation of ego
Confusing divine immortality
With hegemonic human profligacy

Hiranyakshyapu

he strives to find meaning
In Feeding, Fattening and Fornicating
Intoxicatingly imposing
Upon the world, his vain inanities
Attempting to hammer it
In his self- image
“Believing” himself divine
he deludingly decrees by fiat
The worship of his name

Graduating from Law school
he founds the first B school
Unearthing the crude seducing powers
Of mendacious modernity
The holy new age trinity
Of Branding, Marketing and Advertising
That supposedly supply meaning
To his ever expanding demands

Manufacturing, an alienating culture
For his religious self worship
He pontificates endlessly
About Economic equilibrium
While bulldozing Mother Nature
Into debilitating disequilibrium
Viciously violating his own mother
That birthed him to begin with…

Sensitive to the plight of his Mother
Overseeing, the overweening madness
Of organized religious consumerism
The Divine child, refuses to oblige..
Prahalada, knowing not the ego
And christened with Christ’s agape
Speaks with stubborn conviction
The Vak he hears
Of the Omniscience that pervades
The atomic and cosmic

Irritated, Hiranyakashyapu thunders….
“Who is this that you crow about?
If all pervading, is he in this pillar?”

Prahalada sings in ecstasy
“Thunilum iruppan, thurumbillum irupan” ( He exists in the pillar as well as its’ rust)
Frustrated, the tyrannical father
Kicks open the pillar
With his self absorbed might.

Whoops! The Great Reveal beckons….

Left: The battle, Right: Emerging from the pillar

Narasimha the Auspicious!
The Towering Man-Lion appears
Glazed with the golden light
Of the splendid Sudarshana

He snarls menacingly
As Ugra Narasimha,
Fuming up his frightening flames
He leaps up and roars ferociously
To extinguish the deified demonic ego..
Founding the first fiery foundation
For ever evolving Justice

In the twilight of dusk
Being neither day not night
He drags the demon by his throat
By the entrance of his residence
Being neither inside nor outside
He tears open his greedy belly
With his bare nails
Using neither weapon nor hand
The amalgamated Man-Beast
Delivers the demon
From his unending appetite
Growling with unrelenting rage
He embellishes the broadness
Of His passionate chest
With Hiranya’s narrow intestines

In response to the sprawling
Law schools and B schools
He plants the seed for Dharma
As that which sustains
By harmonising
Amidst the ever evolving..
The certain uncertainty
Of the human condition…

His dramatic display of Dharma
Divines what is to come-
The vengefully powerful politics
Of Parashuram
The righteous ethical politics
Of Rama
And the playfully pivoting poetics
Of Krishna

Left: Krishna, Centre: Parashurama, Right: Rama

Poetic justice is not enough
To Soothe His red-hot rage,
Exacerbated by asuric blood
His bloodlust pumps up
Threatening to become perpetual
As He desiccates the whole world
With His vermilion fury

Love is the only hope….
As He mildly calms
On hearing,
The mellifluous tears of Prahalada
And as his eternal love Lakshmi
Settles into his lap, He poses for a bit
As the resplendent Lakshmi Narasimha

Left: Lakshmi Narasimha, Right: Prahalada and Narasimha

But the laws of energy hold
As the thirst for asuric blood resurfaces
This time threatening to
Annihilate the entire world

Coaxing the Matted One to
Arise as Sharabha
The fragmented Avian Mammal
Of altruism
To integrate with
The Glorious man-mammal
Of Dharma

Left : Prutyungara; Right : Sharabha

Aaaargh! the chaos of integration
A relentless fight unto death
Ensues between the two…
Bringing the world to a precipice

At the brink appears
Prutyungara! the primordial mother
Who melts them together
With the inexplicable heat
Of fervid compassion

Finally fulfilled, Narasimha
Sits Cross legged
With his eyes closed
As the serene Yoga Narasimha

Furiously loving
Those who love like him
Awakening within
Upon feeling the Terrific tremors
Unleashed by the chimes of…
“Ugram Veeram Mahavishnum
Vishnum jvalantam sarvatho mukham
Nrisimham bheeshanam bhhadram
Mrityur mrityum namam yaham” (Translation below)

Yoga Narasimha

Mantra translation- “I bow down in front of the ferocious and brave form of Lord Narashimha, who is effulgent like fire, has his face everywhere, the most auspicious one and the death of death itself” ( Listen to it below to feel it)
